Open Source Digital Cameras
by admin on Nov.07, 2009, under Tech
Hey Do you know about Open Source Digital Camera ? it Sounds Crazy… But look around my post .That Standford photo scientists are out to revolutionise digital photography with the introduction of an open-source digital camera, which will give programmers around the world the chance to create software that can teach cameras new tricks.
If the technology catches on, camera performance will be no longer be limited by the software that comes pre-installed by the manufacturer. Virtually all the features of the Stanford Camera – focus, exposure, shutter speed
flash etcetera will be at the command of a software that can be created by inspired programmers anywhere. “The premise of the project sis to build a camera that is Open Source,” said computer science Professor Marc Levoy.
Computer science graduate Andrew Adams, who helped design the prototype of the Stanfod camera, which is dubbed as “Frankencamera” envisions a future where comsumers can download applications to their open platform cameras the way Apple apps are downloaded on iPhones today. When the camera’s operating software is made available publicly, perhaps a year from now, users will be able to continuously improve it, along the open-source model of the Linux Operating System for computers or the Mozilla Firefox Web Browser.
From there, the sky’s the limit. Programmers will have the freedom to experiment with new ways of tuning the camer’s response to light and motion, adding their own algorithms to process raw images in innovative ways.

3D images Touchable
by admin on Nov.07, 2009, under Tech
Japanese scientists have come up with an interesting new type of 3D viewing, one in which you can actually touch what you see. Using, among other things, Nintendo Wiimote controllers, the scientists have found a way to interact with 3D images in a way where it feels like you are actually touching the objects.
The Wiimote controllers
track movement whereas ultrasonic waves are used to create what feels like pressure when a user’s hand “touches” a hologram that is projected.
So far, the technology has only been tested on relatively simple objects but its creators are hoping to use it to create things like virtual light swithes for hospitals, where contamination by touch may be an issue.

Web Operated Robots | Tech
by admin on Nov.05, 2009, under Tech
Using a new Software Protocol called the interoperable telesurgical protocol, nine research teams from universities and research institutes around the world recently collaborated on the first successful demonstration of multiple biomedical robots operated from different locations in the United States
Europe, and Asia.
In a 24-hour peroid, each participating group connected over the internet to control robots at different locations. The tests performed demonstrated how a wide variety of robots and controller designs can seamlessly interoperate, allowing researcher to easily and more efficiently work together. In addition, the demonstration evaluated the feasibility of robotic manipulation from multiple sites and measured time and performance for evaluating laparscopic surgical skills

Rechargable Flexi-Batteries | Tech
by admin on Nov.05, 2009, under Tech
Researchers at Uppsala university in Sweden have created a Rechargeable battery almost indistinguishable from normal paper.
The new cheap and flexible power technology is possible thanks to nono-engineedred plastic electronics and a new typr of cellulose made from green Algae. The scientists envisage ultra-thin, disposable electronic gadgets, such as wrapping paper that lights up with “Happy Birthday” messages and communications technlogy built into clothing.
